This Nebraska girl who married a Puerto Rican and moved to KC, is a lover of deadlifts, pizza, her dog Gabbana! Take a few moments to get to know this fabulous lady who brings joy, energy and encouragement into the gym (weekdays at 5:45pm)!
1. What’s your athletic background?
I only played golf in high school and then got asked to play rugby in my early 20’s. When I was in my early 30’s I did boot camp style workouts and that’s it!
2. What was your first experience with CF?
I hadn’t done any kind of workout for 3 months due to a sprained ankle. I wanted to do a group style workout because I’m competitive! I saw a groupon for CrossFit and decided to see what all the hype was about! I ended up loving it even though my body hurt for days!! I kept wanting to learn more!!
3. When did you start CF?
I started 3 years ago.
4. Why did you choose CrossFit Memorial Hill?
I had been going to my previous box for 2 1/2 years and decided I wasn’t getting what I wanted out of the coaching or WOD’s. I finally got the courage to try a different box! A couple of my friends had went to The Hill and they loved it! So I decided to give it a try…we’ll now ya’ll are stuck with me!
5. What keeps you coming back?
How could I not come back! Everything from when you enter the building and get an amazing welcome from whoever is at the desk! To how the coaches know your name from the get go, to the most knowledgeable coaches (I love how they know what helps each of us as individuals), to everyone being so encouraging!! I love how we all give high fives to each other when we finish a WOD!! Did I mention how AMAZING this place is?!?!
6. Why do you live in KC and how do you like to spend your free time?
My husband, Orlando moved here to KC 11 years ago from Puerto Rico. He then met me a year later and moved to Nebraska for me! After living there for 4 years he said we needed to move! Well I had never moved away from Nebraska and was really sad to be away from my family and friends. But now we’ve been here for a little over 6 years and we love it!!
In our spare time we love going to all the great local restaurants here in KC!! Also hanging out with friends and taking our dog, Gabbana to the dog park!
7. What do you like about KC?
Everything! People are nice, the restaurant selection is good, and you can always find something to do.
8. What are one or two improvements you have seen in your life since starting CF?
I have more energy and I really take pride in living a healthy lifestyle
9. What are your goals for 2017?
I would truly be the happiest person if I could finally get a kipping pull up and double under this year!! I am determined to get them.
10. What would you say to someone thinking about starting CF?
Give it a try and go with an open mind! If you can’t do a movement/skill there always is a progression for it! You will be amazed at what you can do with the proper coaching!
11. What’s your favorite & least favorite CF movement?
My favorite is probably deadlift and least favorite is overhead squats or snatch.
